In short
Revenue in YouTube Studio is an estimate and can be revised. The final amount for a month appears in AdSense for YouTube after the month closes, usually in the first half of the following month. A small gap between them is normal. Use the Studio estimate to analyze videos and slots, and the AdSense final for bookkeeping.
Two different numbers#
A creator has two sources of money data:
- Estimated revenue in Studio. Updated almost daily, broken down by video, source and day. YouTube explicitly calls it estimated: the numbers can be revised.
- Final earnings in AdSense for YouTube. Appear after the month closes, once YouTube has calculated the final amount. This is what goes to your balance and your payment.
Mixing them up is harmless as long as you remember they answer different questions. Studio: “how are things going and which videos earn”. AdSense: “how much will I get paid”.
Monthly earnings
the final can differ
- Month in progress
- Month closed
- Final in AdSense
- Payment
When the final amount appears#
According to AdSense help, finalized earnings for a month are usually posted to your balance in the first half of the following month. If the balance has reached the payment threshold and your payment details are in order, the payment goes out in the second half of the month. Exact dates and thresholds depend on country and currency, so check the help page and your account.
Why the amounts differ#
A small gap between the estimate and the final is normal. Reasons:
- data refinement after the month closes;
- invalid traffic: impressions the system decided not to count are deducted;
- adjustments for advertisers and previous periods;
- exchange rates, if Studio and AdSense show different currencies.
If the gap is large and recurs every month, look at the AdSense reports and contact support if needed.
What to compare with what#
The main rule is to compare like with like:
- Videos, slots, RPM: use the Studio estimate. It is detailed and available right away.
- Month over month for budgeting: use the AdSense final.
- Do not mix them: this month’s estimate against last month’s final shows a gap that is not really there.
To analyze placement changes, use equal periods in Studio and account for seasonality: how to evaluate a change. If revenue moves with the same views, start with RPM.
How the Monvilo dashboard shows it#
On the Money tab, Monvilo puts both pictures on one screen: the Studio estimate, the AdSense calendar and the balance.
You can see how much has accumulated so far and when to expect the final amount. Monvilo has no access to payments: the extension only reads the numbers in your browser.
Frequently asked questions#
Why does yesterday’s revenue in Studio keep changing?
Data for the last few days is updated with a delay and refined. For conclusions, look at periods that ended at least a couple of days ago.
The AdSense final is lower than the estimate. Is that an error?
A small difference is normal: the final includes adjustments and invalid traffic. If the gap is large and regular, look into the AdSense reports.
Which number should go into a report for a partner?
If you need money actually received, use the AdSense final. If you need trends by video, use the Studio estimate and note that it is an estimate.
