In short
“Ads unlikely to show here” applies to one ad slot on the timeline, and you fix it by moving that point. The yellow $ icon in your video list means limited ads for the entire video: it is about the advertiser-friendly guidelines, not about placement. Moving slots will not clear a yellow icon, and a review request will not fix an awkward slot.
Two different levels of review#
Creators often see yellow in two places in Studio and treat it as one problem. In fact YouTube reviews a video at two levels.
The slot level. In the ad breaks editor, a specific point can get feedback. It says that an ad is unlikely to play exactly there, for example because the point cuts a sentence or an action. Other slots in the same video may be fine.
The video level. In the Content page, the monetization column shows an icon. A yellow icon means the video does not meet all of the advertiser-friendly guidelines and may earn less than content that is suitable for advertisers. It is a decision about the whole video.

Whole video
Tell them apart in a minute#
Ask three questions.
- Where do you see it? Slot feedback appears in the ad breaks editor next to a point. The icon appears in the video list and on the video’s monetization page.
- What is it attached to? Slot feedback has a timestamp. The icon does not.
- What changes after an edit? Slot feedback is re-evaluated after you move the slot and save. The yellow icon changes after the video is reviewed again, not after slots move.
If the answers point to a timestamp, it is a placement question. If they point to the whole video, it is about ad suitability.
What to do about slot feedback#
Feedback is a prompt to review one passage. The full workflow is in our article on “Ads unlikely to show here”; here is the short version:
- Open the point and listen to a few seconds before and after it.
- Find a finished thought nearby: the end of an answer, a conclusion or a step.
- Move the slot, save and wait for the new evaluation.
- If there is no good pause nearby, remove the slot rather than placing it at random.
No feedback does not promise an ad. We explain why in why an ad slot does not guarantee an ad.
What to do about the yellow icon#
The yellow icon is about the content of the video: topic, language, visuals, title, thumbnail and description. YouTube explains how ad suitability reviews work. If you believe the decision is wrong, you can request a review directly in Studio.
Before you do, check the video honestly against the guidelines, including the metadata: the title and thumbnail are part of the review too. While the icon is yellow, moving ad slots for its sake is pointless, because the slots are not the issue.
Note the opposite case as well. While the suitability check is running, YouTube does not show ads on the video. That is a normal step after upload, not slot feedback.
When you have both#
A video can have a yellow icon and feedback on individual slots at the same time. Handle them separately and in a clear order:
- Deal with the icon first: it affects the whole video.
- Then return to placement and fix the flagged points.
- Note the date and what you changed, so you are not guessing later.
Do not bundle these into one edit. Otherwise, when revenue moves, you will not know what caused it. Our guide on evaluating a placement change shows how to compare periods carefully.
How it looks in Monvilo#
The Monvilo dashboard shows both levels in one video list. The “Limited ads” filter collects videos with a yellow icon, and the flags filter collects videos where YouTube flagged individual slots. That keeps the tasks apart: the first group needs a content review, the second needs slots moved.
For flagged slots, Monvilo looks for a replacement in nearby speech pauses, saves it in Studio and waits for YouTube’s new evaluation. It cannot help with the yellow icon: only YouTube decides on ad suitability, and the review request is made in Studio.
Frequently asked questions#
The yellow icon appeared right after upload. Is it because of my ad slots?
No. The icon is about the content of the whole video. Right after upload the video may still be in the suitability check, and the final icon color appears later.
Will removing all ad slots clear the yellow icon?
No. The icon does not depend on how many slots there are or where they sit. If you disagree with the decision, request a review in Studio.
My slots have no feedback, but no ads are showing. Why?
An unflagged slot is only an opportunity. Whether an ad plays depends on the viewer, advertiser demand and other YouTube conditions.
